Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Student Union (NSU) has demanded that the government immediately bring out Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and outgoing Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak under the ambit of investigation.
Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Monday, NSU President Dujang Sherpa demanded that the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Home Minister Lekhak should take responsibility for the loss of lives during the Gen-G movement.
He also made it clear that they had demanded the resignation of the then Prime Minister Oli and Home Minister Lekhak on the same day as there were many human casualties on September 23, the first day of the Jenji movement. Stating that Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Sah was seen as the leader of the protest, he also urged the government to immediately initiate investigation into the incidents including the burning of Singha Durbar.
“We should also bring the then prime minister and home minister under the purview of investigation and take their statements and take action against those found guilty. At the same time, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister should take moral responsibility for this. They should resign. The demand states.
They have also demanded that a powerful probe commission be formed to resolve the issue. Likewise, the NRNA has demanded the government to ensure at least 40 per cent representation of youths and students in the party, parliament, federal, provincial and local bodies by forwarding the process of restructuring the political parties.
Reflecting on the fact that the student unions which are sister organizations are limited to partisanship today, the union has demanded that the organizations should be made to carry out an independent, automatic and accountable manner by making institutional reforms and restructuring to respect the historical contribution and social role of the student movement.
The association has also urged the government and political parties to ensure periodic conventions and conferences in student unions and to create legal and organizational mechanisms for the same.
“The incumbent government has announced to hold the election to the House of Representatives on March 4, 2005 and in this context, the union has taken the internal debate of transformation going on in the party positively. The demand states.
