Kathmandu. A total of 23.80 lakh farmers have been enlisted under the Farmer Listing Programme. The government has brought the programme to provide necessary assistance along with grants. According to the Agriculture, Information and Training Centre, the state has started enlisting the farmers across the country with the preparation of providing facilities to the farmers through the electronic system.

Centre’s officer Sanjeev Pandit said the farmers would be classified into four types based on their income status. According to him, identity cards will be distributed by identifying subsistence farmers, small farmers, medium farmers and big farmers.

Farmers will be able to provide facilities like chemical fertilizers, seeds, subsidies and service management once farmers are connected to the electronic information system. “As per the census of 2078 BS, around 41 lakh farmers have been counted, so the center is also planning to include them. This number may fluctuate a bit by the time the program is completed,” he said.

According to Officer Pandit of the Agriculture Information and Training Center, information of farmers has been collected through the local levels across the country. According to him, the integrated data is being collected including the production of farmers, the area of cultivated land and other details.

He urged the farmers to register their names in the programme that began with a ministerial meeting in February 2077 BS. He said that the farmers have been requested to register their names as they would not be able to get the subsidy and facilities provided by the state until the farmers are identified.
