Inflation has decreased, how much?

Kathmandu. In the second month of the current fiscal year, consumer inflation stood at 1.87 percent.

It had increased by 3.86 percent in the same period of the previous year. Food and beverage inflation stood at 1.34 per cent and non-food and service group at 3.70 per cent in August. In the same period of the previous year, inflation of these groups was 5.06 percent and 3.19 percent respectively.

The Consumer Price Index of Ghee and Oil sub-group under the food and beverage group increased by 11.09 percent, non-alcoholic beverages by 3.97 percent and milk and egg by 2.66 percent in the review period. The Consumer Price Index of Vegetables sub-group decreased by 12.74 percent, Marmasala by 6.31 percent and pulses by 3.58 percent.

Within the non-food and services group, the index of miscellaneous goods and services sub-group increased by 11.77 percent, education by 7.67 percent, clothing and footwear by 6.29 percent, tobacco by 4.84 percent and furnishing and household appliances by 4.55 percent.

The Consumer Price Index for Insurance and Financial Services (BFIs) decreased by 0.22 percent in the review period. In August, the year-on-year consumer price index of the rural areas increased by 1.73 percent and the urban areas by 1.91 percent.

Year-on-year consumer price inflation in Koshi Province was 2.99 percent, Madhesh Province 1.74 percent, Bagmati Province 1.72 percent, Gandaki Province 1.47 percent, Lumbini Province 1.76 percent, Karnali Province 1.85 percent and Sudurpaschim Province 0.88 percent. Year-on-year consumer price inflation in Kathmandu Valley was 2.21 percent, Terai 1.70 percent, Hilly region 1.68 percent and Mountain 2.51 percent in August.
