Lalitpur. Kathmandu: The CPN (UML)’s tenth central committee meeting has kicked off at the Rambagh Mahal in Bhanimandal of Lalitpur today. The CPN-UML central committee meeting is taking place for the first time in the midst of special circumstances after the Genji movement, the dissolution of the House of Representatives and the formation of a new government.

In his address to the meeting, Chairman KP Sharma Oli said that the UML is the only party to raise the head of the nation with national self-respect, citing an illustration that Nepal’s communist movement has moved ahead with historical events.

He also stressed the need of unity to bring the country back to the rhythm of democracy, peace, development, social justice and prosperity. Chair Oli is scheduled to present a contemporary political report in the meeting.

Earlier, a meeting of the party’s central secretariat held on October 9 had decided to hold the party’s 11th national general convention in the second week of December.

The committee comprises party deputy general secretary Pradeep Gyawali, standing committee member Rajendra Gautam and chief whip of the dissolved House of Representatives Mahesh Bartaula.

Politburo member Surya Thapa and central members Bishnu Rijal and Niraj Acharya have been assigned the responsibility of putting their views in the meeting, said General Secretary Shankar Pokharel.
