122 prisoners absconding from different jails arrested in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have arrested 122 absconding prisoners from Kathmandu on the charge of escaping from different jails during the Genji protest on September 10. A team of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and its subordinates arrested 122 inmates who had escaped from the scene of the demonstration.

Of them, 35 are for theft, three for polygamy, 17 for forced marriage, three for murder, 30 for drug abuse, three for banking charges, 12 for attempt to murder and three for organized crime.

Likewise, three were arrested on robbery, three on vehicular murder, six on murder and one on human trafficking and three on other charges, said Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa. Of them, 112 are men and 10 women.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Thapa said they are searching for the inmates who escaped from the prison taking advantage of the protest. He also urged the public to inform the police if they see that there might be escaped prisoners living in his society and neighbourhood.

The police have urged the people to contact the nearest police office or Nepal Police hotline 100 if they have any information about the unidentified people in their vicinity, the settlement of new people or the absconding detainees.
