Kaski. Police have arrested 81 inmates who had escaped from Kaski jail during a demonstration that took place on September 10. The Prison Department had urged the detainees and detainees of various cases to voluntarily return to the jail by October 20.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Information Officer at the District Police Office, Hari Bahadur Basnet, said that the arrestees and inmates were arrested from different places. “We had urged the prisoners and detainees who were absconding from the prison following the demonstrations, vandalism and arson on September 7 and 24 to return to jail voluntarily. However, a search has been launched by the District Police Office and its subordinate offices to arrest those who failed to appear before the court within the stipulated time,” he said.

Among those arrested, 16 are on charges of rape and drug abuse. According to police, 25 are on the charge of theft, eight of murder, nine of attempt to murder, four of indecent behavior, one each of vehicle, assault and human trafficking.

District Prison Administrator Rajendra Sharma informed that more than 200 of the 773 prisoners who escaped during the protest are still absconding. The office had issued a notice on October 25 to the prisoners who escaped from the prison and gave them time to return till October 3. Police have been searching for the inmates who did not return to the prison within the stipulated time and have not contacted them. The prison has stated that action will be taken against them as per the prevailing law while those hiding, hiding or sheltering the absconding prisoners will also be found guilty and action will be taken as per the law.

Office records were burnt by the protesters’ arson. The details of the inmates are preserved in computer records. Sharma said that all the details of the prison are safe as it is also registered in the network of the central department.
