Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — The Election Commission (EC) has held discussions with the political parties for the first time today regarding the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives.

The EC had written to the political parties representing in the dissolved House of Representatives and winning at least one ward member in the last election to come to the discussion on preparations for the upcoming elections.

The meeting was attended by Nepali Congress publicity department chief Min Bishwakarma, CPN (UML) vice-chair Guru Baral, CPN (Maoist Centre) secretariat member Dev Gurung, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) general secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) senior vice-chair Rajendra Prasad Pandey and other political parties.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari urged the political parties to be active by creating an environment conducive for the election at a time when the election has already been announced and preparations have begun.

The government was formed under the leadership of former Chief Justice Karki following the Zenji agitation on September 7 and 24 and the House of Representatives was dissolved.
