Jhapa. The floods triggered by incessant rainfall from October 3 to October 3 have destroyed paddy crops in 463.42 hectares of land in Jhapa.
Chief of Agriculture Knowledge Office, Sagar Bista, said that 1,644.33 metric tonnes paddy worth Rs 57.523 million was destroyed by 703 farmers.
“The floods have damaged other crops as well, but not as much as paddy,” he said. Most of the paddy fields have been washed away by the floods in Kankai and Biring rivers following the rainfall.
The floods swept away agricultural products planted in 5,126 hectares of land in Gauriganj, Jhapa rural municipality, Bhadrapur, Kankai, Shivasatakshi and Gauradaha municipalities.
According to him, Jhapa rural municipality has suffered more damage than other rural municipalities. Paddy, potatoes and bananas worth Rs 51.44 million were destroyed by 431 farmers of wards 1, 2 and 3 of the rural municipality.
