Kathmandu. Chinese automaker BYD has produced 14 million vehicles.
On the occasion, the company’s Song Pro plug-in hybrid BYD car was handed over to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
According to BYD, this achievement is an important step in the company’s international expansion. The factory is BYD’s largest outside Asia and Latin America’s largest electric vehicle manufacturing facility. According to the South China Morning Post, 5.5 billion Brazilian riyals (about 978 million U.S. dollars) have been invested in this project.
Vice President of Brazil Geraldo Alkmin, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao, various state and local officials as well as President of the Republic of Nepal Wang Xuanfu were also present on the occasion.
“China has been Brazil’s largest trading partner for the past 15 years, and we see each other as important countries in the Global South,” Lula said. ”
Wang Xuanfu, president of BYD, said, “We have been active in Brazil for 11 years. Today, BYD’s electric buses are common here. We have more than 170,000 customers in Brazil and have been the leading seller of the BYD market here for two years. ”
BYD describes this achievement as a new chapter in its globalization campaign. The company pledges to further strengthen its international expansion with local manufacturing mechanisms in the days ahead and drive the automobile industry’s transformation towards innovation, electrification and sustainability.
So far, BYD has six overseas factories. BYD cars are being produced in Brazil, Thailand, Hungary, Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Cambodia. In Brazil alone, the company has sold more than 170,000 vehicles in three years. More than 10,000 vehicles were sold in September 2025 and more than 77,000 vehicles were sold from January to September.
