Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Traffic Police Office has taken action against 275 motorcycles for changing their appearance.
KATHMANDU: As many as 275 motorcycles have been impounded by the Kathmandu Valley as part of a special campaign launched by the Kathmandu Traffic Police to curb noise pollution, according to the Traffic Police Office.
Spokesperson of the Kathmandu Traffic Police Office and Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi said that the police took control of the vehicles that were found blaring horns and illegally modified silencer pipes on motorcycles. “We have impounded a large number of motorbikes to curb noise pollution caused by loud noise,” he said. This campaign will continue. The legal process of the seized bikes has also been initiated. ’
Chief of the Kathmandu Traffic Police Office and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nawaraj Adhikari said that the motorcycles that make loud sound by changing their form have been taken under control in the main cities of the Valley including Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. According to him, as per the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act, 2049 BS, no part of a motor vehicle can be altered against the set standard.
However, the traffic police have been forced to take such measures after it was found that many motorcyclists have been changing the silencer pipes to produce loud noise in recent times.
