Kathmandu. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between industrial house Golyan Group and the families of the martyrs of the Genji movement. Golyan Group has signed an agreement to implement the Education and Health-based Support Programme for the Martyr’s Families announced on October 10.
In the first phase, an agreement has been signed on Friday to bear the expenses of 11 children up to grade 12 and special abilities and talent encouragement. The agreement was signed by Jyoti Gaire, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications of Golyan and their parents on behalf of the children.
As per the understanding, Golyan Group will provide scholarships up to Secondary level (class 1-12) in an educational institution where the martyr’s family members are studying, desired or deemed appropriate.
“As per the requirement, the scholarship will be deposited in the bank account of the scholarship institution,” reads the agreement, “If necessary, a three-party agreement can be made between the scholarship recipient’s guardian, Golyan Group and the concerned educational institution.” ’
In addition to the educational scholarships, the students will also have to pay admission fees and regular fees to participate in any one of the extracurricular activities as per the wishes of the children.
Based on the information provided by the parents, the process has been started to teach in Euro School Chhauni, Paradise English School Sanepa, Jagriti Vidhyasadan English School Mulpani among others.
“None of the help we provide can erase the pain of losing a loved one, but we extend a helping hand with the feeling that you are not alone, we are also together,” she said. ”
Gaire, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Golyan Group, said that as part of its social responsibility, the company has announced and started implementing programs based on education and health for the families of the martyrs of the Genji movement.
According to him, the first phase of the support programme has been launched by identifying the needs of the martyr families by visiting their doorsteps. “We are also contacting the families of other martyrs and will identify their needs and connect them to support programmes,” she said.
On the occasion, a member of the martyr’s family said that the Golyan Group has honored the dreams of the martyrs by giving high importance to the future of the children. “Golyan Group has done us a great honor by taking the responsibility of educating the children of martyrs,” he said, “The son who carried this responsibility in my house has become a martyr, now Golyan Group has become the guardian of my grandson.” ’
Urmila Nagarkoti of Kathmandu, who has been taking care of her two siblings after the loss of her mother during the protests, said that she has got a new guardian. After the death of her father and mother Kanchi Nagarkoti in the agitation, Urmila had to shoulder the responsibility of her brother studying in class 9 and sister studying in class 11. “I was worried about how to educate my siblings when I didn’t have my parents, but now it’s gone,” she said.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Manju Poudel said that there is nothing greater than education in the life of every person. Manju’s husband Anish Parajuli was shot dead in Maharajgunj. He has two sons, a 2-year-old and a 14-year-old man. Golyan Group has taken the responsibility of their education up to class 12.
Golyan Group has also started the process of implementing the Health Insurance Support Program. Gaire, head of corporate affairs and communications of the company, said that the insurance will be provided to the fathers and mothers of the martyr families who have not been included in the educational scholarship program. According to him, in the second phase, the remaining martyr families will be met immediately after Tihar and will be connected to the program. She said that efforts are being made to contact the martyr families outside Kathmandu and all the martyr families will be included in the relief program as per the announcement within the month of October.
