Farmers in Tanahun and Myagde elated after sale of marigolds

Damauli. A total of 468 kilograms marigolds were sold from Chhimleswara of Myagde rural municipality-4 in Tanahun district.

The Chandeshwori Fruit and Vegetable Producers’ Group sold 468 kilograms of marigolds in a single day on Monday. The flowers were sold at Rs 300 each to the traders of Pokhara, said Mahendra Raj Rana, secretary of the group. “We planted marigolds in six ropanis of land in two places in the first year,” he said. A total of 168 kilogrammes of flowers were sold from one place and 368 kilogrammes from another place. ’

The farmers, who have done flower farming in the first year, are happy to get the market. He said that there is still a demand for flowers but they do not have them. “We are happy that all the flowers produced in the first year are sold out,” he said. The worry of not getting a market was gone. “There is no situation to provide flowers even though there is a demand for flowers,” he said.

Group Chairperson Jitmaya Rana said that although they started planting flowers due to fear that their labor would be wasted due to lack of market, they were encouraged after getting market. He said that he is planning to expand the area next year after ensuring the market in the first year.

He said that although he was worried about where to take the flowers after flowering, his heart is also happy now that there is no problem in the market. According to him, more than six thousand saplings were planted on lease of six ropanis of land. Earlier, farmers who were growing cucumber, cucumber, bean, maas, bitter gourd and chillies have started cultivating marigolds this year.
