Kathmandu. Five-star Hotel Taragaon Regency Hotels (Hyatt Regency, Kathmandu) has said that it will come into operation after the reconstruction, citing that it suffered a big loss during the Genji movement.

Issuing a press release on Sunday, the hotel’s executive director Suresh Lal Shrestha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal for their assurance of providing necessary support from the government to the hotel.

“The damage caused to the hotel during the Jenji agitation on September 7 and 24 is being assessed and after the reconstruction, it will be operated with determination to further raise Nepal’s prestige in the tourism sector,” the statement reads.

“The vandalism, looting, and fire that took place during the agitation have caused a big damage to the hotel’s guest room, office, reception, lobby, restaurant, banquet and chaitya and all the structures of the hotel,” the hotel said in a statement. According to the hotel, it will take at least a year for the renovation and reconstruction.

The hotel has pledged to contribute to the economic development of the country by increasing the government’s revenue in the coming days and to raise Nepal’s prestige in the tourism sector by taking the responsibility of Nepal’s flagship hotel.

“The hotel has been a witness to the various political and social changes that have taken place in Nepal in the last two and a half decades. During this period, we have been contributing significantly to the tourism and economy of the country by employing thousands of people over the years, facing challenges such as extreme armed conflict, peace process, constitution drafting, earthquake and the coronavirus pandemic,” the hotel said.

It has been honored by the government time and again for its significant contribution to the country’s economy through hotel tourism. The hotel has so far been honored seven times as the highest taxpayer in the tourism sector and twice as the highest foreign currency collection in the tourism sector.
