Kanchanpur. So far, 388 prisoners have returned home from the district jail. Of them, 371 are male and 17 female.
Acting Administrator of the Prison Ramdatta Joshi said that 99 of the prisoners who escaped after the demolition of the prison are still absconding. Among the absconding, 17 are women. According to Joshi, police arrested 63 prisoners from different places of the district and handed them back to prison.
At present, 14 Indian nationals are serving sentences while 17 Indian prisoners are still absconding. Legal action will be taken against the prisoners and detainees who fail to return within the stipulated time as per the Prison Act, 2079 and other prevailing laws.
According to Officiating Administrator Joshi, the person hiding, hiding or sheltering the absconding prisoners or detainees will also be found guilty legally and necessary action will be taken against them.
Acting Administrator Joshi said that the police have intensified the search and arrest of the absconding prisoners as some inmates have not come into contact yet despite the public appeals made by the prison administration time and again to return voluntarily.
