Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the government to take action against those involved in looting, vandalism and arson of industries, businesses and private property during the Genji movement.

The FNCCI has drawn the government’s serious attention to the issue, stating that complaints have been received from the members who have not taken any complaint against those involved in such incidents, which will increase impunity in the society and discourage entrepreneurs.

The FNCCI has said that these incidents have not only weakened the morale of the private sector but have also negatively affected the economic activities. “We have been receiving information from the member businessmen that there is no registration of complaints against the culprits and there is indifference in taking action against the culprits, and if this situation continues, it will increase impunity and pose a serious challenge to the investment climate,” he said. This will have a long-term impact on job creation, revenue collection, investment promotion and the overall economy. The federation said in a statement.

The FNCCI has also urged the government to ensure the FNCCI’s representation in the central and district-level security committees to ensure the security of the private sector.

The FNJ has already sent a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs making a formal request in this regard. The federation has urged the participation of its own and member associations in the committee to ensure the direct participation of the business community in the government, private sector coordination at all levels and especially in the district-level security planning, risk assessment and emergency decision-making.

During a discussion attended by the office-bearers of FNCCI, Standing Committee and Committee÷Forum presidents on Sunday, FNCCI Acting President Anjan Shrestha said that peace and security of the entrepreneurs were indispensable as there would be no stability without peace and security.

He stressed the need to end impunity and ensure that entrepreneurs are not attacked in the future. He stressed the need to investigate and take action against the guilty to prevent further confusion and uncertainty in the society and to end impunity.

Shekhar Golchha, immediate past president of FNCCI, said that the government has expected the government’s active role in promoting the country’s economic activities in a sustainable way, creating a credible investment climate and creating a situation in which the private sector can function confidently.

He said that the government should pay attention to maintain peace and security in the present situation and to boost the morale of industrialists and entrepreneurs.

During the discussions, the attention of all concerned was drawn to ensure environment conducive for the entrepreneurs to work without any hindrance, saying the attack on the private sector, which plays a significant role in the country’s economy and employment, has discouraged them.
