Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kul Man Ghising left for New Delhi, India on Monday to attend the eighth assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
The meeting will be attended by ministers from over 40 countries in New Delhi from November 26 to 29. Minister Ghising will address the gathering where high-level discussions will be held among the energy ministers and representatives of ISA member countries on the issues related to solar energy promotion, sustainable energy supply expansion, climate change mitigation initiatives and opportunities for collaboration.
Nepal is committed to expanding the use of solar energy for sustainable energy development and aims to increase access to clean energy through international collaboration. Minister Ghising delivered the keynote address at the thematic session of the assembly on “Vision of Regional and Global Interconnectivity for Large Scale Clean Energy Transition”.
In November 2015, the Paris Declaration on ISA was promulgated to jointly address the common challenge of increasing solar energy in line with the needs of the parties.
The ISA was established to mobilize more than $1,000 billion in investment needed by 2030 to use solar energy extensively and to guide the adaptation of future technologies.
Nepal joined the ISA in August 2081 as the 101st member country after the House of Representatives ratified the Structure Agreement on the establishment of the ISA. Minister Ghising is scheduled to return home on Wednesday.
