The main opposition party, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), had submitted a memorandum to the provincial government a few days ago, demanding to reduce the number of ministries.
The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML parliamentary party held a few days ago agreed to reduce the number of ministries in the provinces.
Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya said, “The government has formed a committee to study the number of ministries after a joint meeting of the ruling party agreed in principle to reduce the number of ministries. The committee is studying which ministries to be kept, which ministries to be adjusted and how to manage employees, among others. ’
“We have already started the process to reach a concrete decision to reduce the number of ministries as the political parties have agreed to reduce the number of ministries of the province government,” said Chief Minister Baniya.
Chief Minister Baniya said that the government would take it to a logical conclusion by forging a common view after holding discussions with the political parties on the issues of ministries and structures as expenditure reduction and good governance were the top priorities of the province government.
“The current situation has changed, we are not only focused on reducing the number of ministries but also on how to manage them,” said Chief Minister Baniya, adding, “We will reach to the conclusion of building political consensus in the first phase and then reducing the number of ministries as per the suggestions and suggestions of experts.”
