Cyclone developed in Bay of Bengal, rain forecast in these provinces for three days

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Weather in Bagmati, Madhes and Koshi provinces of Nepal is likely to be affected from Thursday to Saturday due to cyclone ‘Montha’ that developed in the Bay of Bengal.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said moderate rain will occur at many places of Madhes and Koshi Province and at some places of Bagmati Province due to impact of this system. The Department has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places of Madhes and Koshi provinces. Likewise, there are chances of light rain in some places of the eastern region of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

According to Department Spokesperson Bibhuti Pokharel, moderate snowfall is likely to occur at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region of Koshi Province and Bagmati Province and at a few places of the high hilly and mountainous region of Gandaki Province.

Likewise, there are chances of heavy snowfall at one or two places of high hilly and mountainous region of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

According to the Department, the water level in the Bagmati, Kamala, Koshi and Kankai rivers and their tributaries is likely to rise significantly and the warning level is likely to reach nearing the warning level. There is the possibility of flash floods in Koshi, Bagmati and Madhesh provinces and small rivers flowing through the Mahabharat and Chure provinces.

According to the Department, there is a high possibility of flash floods in the small rivers flowing through Kathmandu Valley, Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Makwanpur, Chitwan and Sindhuli of Bagmati Province, Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Saptari and Koshi Province in Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari of Madhes Province.

The Department has urged all bodies concerned and the general public to adopt precaution in view of the risk of sudden flood in the rivers and streams, as well as daily life, road and air transport, agriculture and tourism.
