. Police have arrested former CPN (UML) lawmaker Devi Prasad Bhattachan.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested Bhattachan, who is also the chairman of Prabhu Group, on the charge of financial misappropriation.

According to CIB spokesperson Shiva Kumar Shrestha, Bhattachan was arrested from Godavari Municipality-3 of Lalitpur district.

Bhattachan was arrested by the CIB on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal gain and under the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058 BS.

Bhattachan has been accused of cheating more than Rs 98 crore. Earlier, the chairman of Prabhu Management, Kusum Lama, had filed a complaint against him.

The District Attorney’s Office had sent a complaint to the police on September 27, 2081 for investigation. At that time, the investigation was not moving forward. The CIB has now arrested him.
