Snowfall in Mustang in second week of October: Administration urges people not to travel from Kagbeni to Muktinath

Mustang. This is the first snowfall of the season in Mustang. According to the District Administration Office, Upper Mustang, Koralana transit point, Lomanthang rural municipality and Muktinath area have been experiencing snowfall since this morning.

Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal said snowfall has occurred in the high altitude areas of Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang as well as in Lomanthang-2, Chhosar, Korlanaka and Muktinath areas.

Likewise, snowfall has occurred at Muktinath area, said Rabin Subedi, an employee of the Muktinath Development Committee. Devotees visiting the Muktinath temple have been facing problems due to continuous snowfall since early morning, he said. “Thick snowfall continues in Muktinath area and the snow has accumulated around five to six inches”, he said, adding, “The ground has not been frozen due to the heat. ’

According to Loghekar Damodar Kunda rural municipality chair Lopsang Chhomphel Bista, the high altitude area of Loghekar Damodar Kunda has been snowing and the rainfall has been partly snowfallen. “It snowed in October this year but it was not snowing for two or three years,” Bista said, adding, “The snowfall is very good for the farmers, it will help in the production of crops.” ’

Likewise, villages in high altitude areas like Khinga, Jhong, Chhengur and Falyak of Waragung Mukti Chhetra also received heavy snowfall, said ward chair Pramesh Gurung. He said that the cold has increased with the snowfall which will have an impact on the local life.

Ward Chair Gurung said that apple and other crops have benefited due to snowfall in October this season. He said that the winter season will prove to be a boon for the farmers as the snow irrigates the inner layer of the arable land.

Administration requests not to travel from Kagbeni to Muktinath

The District Administration Office has urged all not to travel from Kagbeni of Waragung Mukti Kshetra-4 to Muktinath of Mustang. The visitors have been urged to visit Muktinath as there is a risk of road accident due to heavy snowfall along the road.

Chhiring Kippa Lama, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office, informed that vehicles have been requested not to travel to Muktinath along the Jomsom-Muktinath road section as the road section has become a narrow and curved turn. He said the travel groups along the Kagbeni-Muktinath road section have been requested not to ply the vehicles as the road at Kalobhir, Khinga, Jharkot among other places has accumulated snow.
