Light rain has occurred in the hilly areas of these districts while snowfall has occurred in the upper belt since last night. Pramesh Gurung, ward chairperson of Waragung Mukti Chhetra Rural Municipality-1 in Mustang district, informed that tourists who had come to visit have been stranded at their shelter due to snowfall.
“It is not possible to operate transport and trekking on the roads and trekking routes due to snowfall”, he said. We have also asked them not to come out. ’
The Department of Meteorology, National Disaster Risk Reduction Authority and District Administration Offices of Myagdi and Mustang have issued a public notice on Monday to avoid trekking due to the possibility of rainfall and snowfall from today.
Muktinath, Lomanthang, Charang and other upper areas received light snowfall. Tourists visiting Annapurna Base Camp, Panchakunda Lake, Ghodepani, Khopra Lekh, Mohredanda and Kokhedanda have also been affected due to rain and snowfall.
Tej Gurung, a hotel entrepreneur of Humkhola, said the route has come to a halt since early morning as the entry point of the route linking Annapurna Base Camp to the Maurice Herzog trekking route. “Around 200 tourists visited the trekking route on a daily basis but around 200 on Monday”, he said. ’
Annapurna rural municipality-4 ward chair Lok Bahadur Pun said the tourists reached Annapurna Base Camp via Maurice Herzog trekking route until 12.00 midnight. Dam Bahadur Pun, a hotel entrepreneur of Ghodepani, said that the tourists have put their trekking on hold due to unfavorable weather.
“Tourists heading towards the destination and to enjoy the view of Pun Hill have been staying in their rooms after having breakfast since early morning”, he said. ’
