Kathmandu. Chaudhary Group has brought in foreign investment amidst political uncertainty, economic uncertainty and challenging environment faced by the private sector.
CG Foods, a prominent FMCG company of Chaudhary Group, in collaboration with India’s renowned snack brand Bikaji Foods International, laid the foundation stone for Bikaji Snacks Factory at CG Industrial Park in Nawalparasi.
The foundation stone was laid by Chaudhary Group’s managing director Varun Chaudhary in the presence of local representatives, government officials and senior officials of the company.
During the recent Gen G agitation, the business establishments of the Chaudhary Group were set on fire and vandalized. Similarly, the main centre of CG Electronics was set ablaze and the private residence of Group Chairman Binod Chaudhary was also set on fire.
After the incident, Group’s Managing Director Nirvana Chaudhary expressed his commitment to Nepal and would move forward with a new vision for Nepal’s economic development. About one and a half months after the incident, Chaudhary Group brought a multinational company into Nepal.
The factory, which is being built in partnership with Bikaji, will produce Bhujia, Namkeen and other popular snacks of Bikaji. Both the companies believe that this partnership will propel food industry into a new pace, reduce dependence on imports, and provide world-class products for the Nepali market. In the first phase, about Rs 50 crore will be invested in this plant and about 400 jobs will be created.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony, managing director Barun Chaudhary said, “At a time when Nepal’s economy needs new energy, we are investing in new sectors in Nepal. This reaffirms Chaudhary Group’s deep commitment to Nepal in practice. Chaudhary expressed his confidence that the investment would bring new hope to the country’s economy.
The establishment of the plant will create new employment opportunities for local people. Chaudhary said that this initiative will not only create direct and indirect employment, but will also benefit local farmers and suppliers and bring industrial dynamism in rural areas including Nawalparasi.
