Kathmandu. There are chances of moderate snowfall at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said heavy snowfall is likely at one or two places of high hilly and mountainous region of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the water level in Bagmati, Kamala, Koshi, Kankai rivers and their tributaries will increase significantly during the period. According to the Department, there is the possibility of sudden floods in small rivers and streams flowing through Mahabharat and Chure in Koshi, Bagmati and Madhesh provinces.
Similarly, there are chances of sudden floods in the rivers of Kathmandu Valley, Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Makwanpur, Chitwan and Sindhuli of Bagmati Province, Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Saptari and Koshi Province in Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Panchthar, Tehathum, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari of Madhes Province.
There is a risk of flash floods in the rivers and streams and landslides due to the possible rain and snowfall as well as affecting daily life, road and air transport, agriculture and tourism among other sectors.
Cyclone ‘Montha’, which developed in the Bay of Bengal, is on the verge of making a landfall in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Thereafter, the Cyclone will gradually weaken and move towards the north-northwest and as a low-pressure area near the central part of Nepal, it will move towards the east.
