Japan to provide Rs 2.6 billion for reconstruction÷maintenance of BP Highway

. The Government of Nepal and the Government of Japan have signed a grant agreement for the reconstruction and maintenance of the BP Highway. The agreement was signed in the presence of Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal.
The BP Highway is an important national highway of Nepal with a length of 159 km from Bardibas in Mahottari district to Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchok district.TAG_OPEN_div_29 The highway was built with grant assistance from the Government of Japan.
Last year’s devastating floods and landslides severely damaged sections of the highway, most notably parts around the Roshi River.TAG_OPEN_div_27 The Government of Japan has provided grant assistance worth 2.8 billion Japanese Yen (approximately Rs 2.6 billion) to the Government of Nepal for the reconstruction and restoration of damaged sections of the roads.
The Exchange of Notes was signed by Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyaya and Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Toru Maeda.TAG_OPEN_div_25
Similarly, Dhaniram Sharma, joint-secretary at the Foreign Cooperation Coordination Division at the Ministry of Finance and Mitsuzaki Mizuki, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal, signed the grant agreement on behalf of their respective governments.TAG_OPEN_div_23
After the signing ceremony, Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal, Japanese Ambassador to Japan Toru Maeda and Chief Representative of JICA Nepal, Matsuzaki Mizuki, made statements on behalf of the Government of Nepal.TAG_OPEN_div_21
In his address, Minister Khanal said that Japan is a reliable and reliable development partner for Nepal and expressed gratitude for its continued support to Nepal in the sectors of socio-economic development and infrastructure development.TAG_OPEN_div_19 He also said that the recent grant assistance is another important symbol of friendship and cooperation between Nepal and Japan.
