Kavrepalanchok. The BP Highway has been obstructed for the past three days due to floods and landslides. The Chaukidanda-Nepalthok road section towards Kavrepalanchowk has been obstructed due to landslides and landslides at several places.

Chief of the Division Road Office, Bhaktapur, Divisional Senior Engineer Suman Yogesh said that the highway has been brought into operation since this morning by removing the obstruction and constructing a diversion at the place where the mudslide has been removed. According to him, the highway was brought into operation after a 50-meter diversion was constructed at Roshi rural municipality-8, Charsabesi of Kavrepalanchowk.

Engineer Yogesh said that there are some problems in removing the diversion and obstruction due to the dry landslide. Similarly, the obstruction could not be removed on Saturday as dry landslide was occurring in Roshi-12, Mamti area, he said. “The highway has been brought into operation by removing the obstruction after the dry landslide stopped”, he added.

The Chaukidanda-Nepalthok road section has been completely obstructed due to landslides triggered by incessant rainfall since October 27.

Vehicular movement along the road has been halted since Thursday night due to continuous dry landslide, said Engineer Yogesh. According to him, landslides with mud and stones fell at Chaukidanda, Biruwadanda, Dalabesi, Narke, Charsabesi, Ghumane and other places due to incessant rainfall since Thursday. Vehicular movement along the highway was stopped time and again due to the risk of monsoon.

Last year, floods and landslides had washed away an eight-km road from Chaukidanda of Kavrepalanchowk to Barkhekhola of Sindhuli along the BP Highway. “The temporary road was brought into operation in order to operate one-way and two-way traffic in some places along the river after the road was washed away,” he said.

Of the total 160 kilometers of the highway, floods and landslides had badly damaged 34 kilometers from Khurkot of Sindhuli to Nepalthok and 50 kilometers from Nepalthok to Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchowk in the third section.

According to the office, the process of contracting for the permanent construction of the damaged highway has been forwarded in four sections. Thousands of vehicles pass through the highway every day.
