Landslide obstructs Kagbeni-Korala road section

Mustang. Vehicular movement has been obstructed due to landslides at 10 different places along the Kagbeni-Korala road section. The road infrastructure has been damaged due to floods along the road section triggered by incessant rainfall since Thursday night.

Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal said the flood has damaged every rivulet and rivulet along the road from Kagbeni to Chusang section of Korala road. He said that although efforts have been taken to open the road using equipment, the road would not be opened immediately.

According to him, the road infrastructure and communication services have also been affected due to the rain in those places. The vehicular movement has been obstructed since Friday morning due to landslides at dozens of places along the distance from Kagbeni to Chaile of Waragung Mukti Chhetra-3.

According to Pramesh Gurung, ward chairperson of Baragung Mukti Area, the flood has completely destroyed around 50 meters of the road from Kagbeni to Tangbe along the Kagbeni-Korala road section. According to him, more than four roads have been obstructed along the Kagbeni-Tangwe road section.

Similarly, the heavy rainfall has caused damages to the Korala road from Tangbe to Chusang section of the road. The flood in the Tangwe River along the Tangbe-Chusang section has completely washed away the road structure.

Similarly, the landslide occurred over 35 meters at Chailai road above Mustang Ged in Waragung Mukti Chhetra, said Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Chhiring Kippa Lama. According to him, the wall was constructed on the road and the filling was done.

Meanwhile, a team of security personnel including Chief District Officer Bhusal made an on-site inspection of the Kagbeni-Chhusang road section, which has been obstructed due to rainfall. Three equipment have been mobilized to repair the road and open the road.

Similarly, the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road project of Kaligandaki Corridor has said that the resources required for road operation would be mobilized. According to the project, two equipments of locals and a loader have already reached the concerned places.

Karma Ghyacho Gurung, chairperson of Waragung-4, said that the Kagbeni-Chusang road section has been damaged at several places and the road has not been resumed immediately. He said that although the repair of the Korala road has started from Saturday, it will take few more days to open the road as many roads have been damaged by floods and landslides. The District Administration Office, Mustang has requested the people not to travel towards Kagbeni-Korala road immediately as it has been obstructed.

Earlier, the Jomsom-Kagbeni road section was obstructed after landslides occurred at three places due to incessant rainfall on Thursday night. The road was brought into operation by clearing the landslide debris by mobilizing dozers at the initiative of the local administration on Saturday morning.

With the operation of Jomsom-Kagbeni road after 24 hours, it has become easier for the devotees visiting Muktinath.
