Kathmandu. National Life Insurance Company (NLIC) has bought shares of Habib Bank in Himalayan Bank in 2 trading days.
National bought all the shares in two working days on Thursday and Sunday. A total of 2,80,12,447 units of shares were traded at Rs 3,331,19,698 in the two trading days.
A total of 140,06,230 units of shares were traded at Rs 1,66,50,60,622 on Thursday. A total of 1,40,06,230 units of shares worth Rs 1,665,59,076 were traded today.
The shares were sold by broker number 48 and bought by broker number 44. As per the agreement, a total of 2,80,12,447 units of shares were traded at Rs 3,331,19,698 in the first two trading days.
Habib Bank of Pakistan had signed an agreement on August 12 to sell its shares in Himalayan Bank at Rs 118.88 per share.
The 12.93 percent stake in Himalayan Bank has now gone to National Life. Earlier, National Bank held 1.25 percent stake in Himalayan Bank. With this, National Life Insurance has become the first major shareholder of Himalayan Bank.
With this, Pakistan’s Habib Bank has exited Himalayan Bank. The state has earned Rs 13,22,18,749 as capital gains tax after Habib sold its ownership from Himalayan Bank.
Habib has paid 25 per cent capital gains tax to the state after selling his stake to National Life.
The bank has issued 2,80,12,447 units of shares at a price of Rs 118.88 per share. It has a face value of one hundred rupees. The bank sold the shares at Rs 18.88 per share. The government has paid 25 percent capital gains tax on the income from the additional value.
A representative of Habib Bank is in Nepal at the time of the sale of shares of Himalayan Bank. Habib’s representatives arrived in Nepal last week. This week, the NRB Governor Prof. Dr. He is preparing to meet Dr. Bishwanath Adhikari.
According to sources, in the meeting with Governor Adhikari, he is preparing to request him to facilitate the sale of shares as soon as possible. The team that arrived in Nepal last week is preparing to return this week after completing all the work.
