Nawalparasi. The Daunne road section of the East-West Highway in Nawalparasi is to be opened one-way for two months. The Narayanghat-Butwal road section is to be opened unilaterally as a culvert has to be constructed along the road.

Issuing a notice today, the Project Directorate under the Department of Roads informed that the one-way traffic will be closed until the culvert is to be constructed along the Daunne section. According to him, the construction of culverts along this section is going on at a rapid pace.

The two-way traffic will be affected due to the construction of the road. According to the Project Directorate, the Dunne pit will be operated unilaterally till December 29.

There has been a problem in the operation of transportation in Daunne for the past few days. Superintendent of Police (SP) Khadka said that the road has become slippery and muddy due to the incessant rain some days ago, which has made it difficult for the vehicles to climb up the hill. According to him, the project will operate one-way road until the culvert construction period as there is a possibility of problem with the arrival of rain in the coming days.

SP Khadka urged all to travel only after knowing the condition of the road while using the Daunne section. He requested the passengers to use an alternative route in case of obstructions after understanding the condition of the road. Passengers have complained that there is always a traffic jam along the Daunne section and the one-way traffic will cause more problems. Passengers have suggested that the road should be made smooth by completing the work as soon as possible.

In case of disruption, vehicles have to use the Bhutaha route via Dumkibas-Dandajor-Damar and Narayangadh-Mugling-Pokhara-Syangja-Palpa-Butwal or Gaindakot.

The journey along the Daunne road section has become arduous since the beginning of the Narayangadh-Butwal road widening project. Although progress has been made in road expansion works in other areas, the delay in the construction of hills, drainage and culverts in Daunne area has caused traffic problems and inconvenience to the commuters.
