Kathmandu. Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, has become the first woman governor of Virginia. He was pitted against Republican incumbent Winsom Earl-Sears.
She was in the lead from the beginning of the counting of votes. Spanberger’s victory was confirmed after voting ended Tuesday night. Spanberger is a former CIA officer and a three-term member of the U.S. Congress.
She will take office in January next year and become the first female governor of Virginia. There are already 74 men in this position.
Spanberger’s campaign was completely anti-Trump. She pledged to protect Virginia from the damage caused by the Trump administration’s policies. “I will stand up for Virginia in the face of chaos coming from Washington,” she said. ’
Her competitor, Sears, tried to present herself as a Trump supporter, but did not receive enough support or financial support.
