Birgunj. As many as 229 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 680.5 million were imported through Birgunj border point in the first three months of the current fiscal year.
Import of electric vehicles has increased in the first three months of the last fiscal year. In the first three months of the last fiscal year, only 97 electric jeeps, cars and vans were imported.
The import of electric vehicles through this border point has increased due to the attraction of the general public towards electric vehicles and the poor condition of the roads passing through the China border. In the first three months of the current fiscal year, revenue of Rs 45.72 crore has been collected from the import of electric jeeps, cars and vans.
Chief Customs Administrator of Birgunj Customs Office, Bishnu Prasad Gyawali, said that the import of electric vehicles has increased significantly in recent period. In the first three months of the last fiscal year, 97 electric vehicles, cars and vans worth Rs 144.9 million were imported through Birgunj checkpoint. In the review period, only Rs 9.11 crore revenue was collected from the import of electric vehicles.
A total of 2,194 electric motorcycles worth Rs 28.79 crore were imported in the first three months of the current fiscal year. In the first three months of the last fiscal year, 1,481 electric motorcycles worth Rs 21.17 crore were imported.
