Kailali. Dhangadhi: The Food Management and Trade Company Limited has purchased 12,527 quintals of paddy in Kailali. The Food Company had started purchasing paddy from six places of the district on November 28.
So far, 3,879 quintals of paddy has been purchased from Tikapur purchase centre, 2,339 quintals from Mohanpur and 2,000 quintals from Satti, said office chief Deepak Thapa. According to him, 1,724 quintals of paddy has been purchased from Gauriganga Purchase Centre, 1,300 quintals from Bhajani and 1,285 quintals from Joshipur.
According to Thapa, the food companies have been purchasing coarse paddy at the minimum support price determined by the government. The government has fixed the minimum support price of paddy at Rs 3,463.81 per quintal this year.
This year, the Company has set a total of 35,000 quintals of paddy procurement quota for the first phase of paddy procurement in the district, he said, adding that the company will purchase a maximum of 50 quintals of paddy from each farmer. He said that for the sale of paddy, the farmers will have to bring identity documents, recommendation of the ward and a copy of the cheque.
According to the Food Management and Trade Company Limited, only 34,501 quintals of paddy was purchased in the district out of the company’s paddy procurement quota of 55,000 quintals last year.
