10 arrested for arson at police station in Genji protest

Jhapa. Police have arrested two youths of Chulachuli of Ilam on the charge of vandalizing the Area Police Office and setting ablaze during the Genji agitation.

The arrestees have been identified as Nakul Adhikari, 22, of Chulachuli Rural Municipality-3 and Riyaz Silwal, 19, of Chulachuli Rural Municipality-5. Both of them were taken under control from Damak on Sunday night for investigation, according to the Area Police Office, Damak.

They have been accused of being involved in vandalism and arson of Area Police Office in Damak during the Genji agitation on September 24. According to the District Police Office, Jhapa, four persons involved in the attack have been arrested.

Police have arrested 21-year-old Sajan Luhagun of Miklajung-5 in Panchthar district for his alleged involvement in vandalism, arson and looting at Area Police Office Damak two days ago.

Similarly, Jhapa police have started arresting those involved in vandalism and arson during the Jenji movement. So far, police have arrested 10 people including four from Damak and six from Birtamod.

Police sources said that the police are identifying the attackers on the basis of videos and photos. Police said they were investigating more than 50 complaints against those involved in vandalism and arson of public and private property during the Jenji agitation.
