Commercial banks in the grip of loan recovery, non-performing loans increase (how much)

Kathmandu. Bad loans are increasing due to the Genji movement, the loan loan issued by the bank, the interest is not being collected on time.

The agitation in the name of Genji on September 23 and 24 has greatly affected the recovery of the bank’s loan at a time when the principal and interest of the loan issued by the bank have stopped being raised on time. Bankers say that due to this, the non-performing loans of the bank have increased. Due to the Genji movement, there has been a slowdown in the recovery of the loans and the flow of new loans has also stopped.

In the first quarter of the current FY, the non-performing assets (NPAs) of banks increased by 0.82 percentage points. In the first quarter of the last FY, the non-performing loan of banks was 4.03 percent. It was 4.85 percent in the same period of the current fiscal year. During this period, the non-performing loan of banks stood at 0.82 percent. Out of 20 commercial banks, the non-performing loans of 15 banks have increased while the non-performing loans of five banks have decreased.

Similarly, non-performing loans of 9 banks are more than 5 percent. Himalayan Bank has the highest non-performing loan (7.39 percent). Similarly, Everest Bank has the lowest non-performing loan of 0.74 percent. In the same period of the last FY, the non-performing loan of Himalayan Bank was 4.98 percent. Everest Bank was trading 0.77 per cent.

The non-performing loan of NIC Asia Bank 6.99 percent, Kumari Bank 6.98 percent, Citizens Bank 6.84 percent, Nepal Investment Mega Bank 6.63 percent, Prime Bank 5.86 percent, Prabhu Bank 5.78 percent, Nepal Bank 5.49 percent and Laxmi Sunrise Bank 5.42 percent.

Likewise, Global IME Bank has 4.98 per cent, Agricultural Development Bank 4.78 per cent, NMB Bank 4.58 per cent, Nabil Bank 4.31 per cent, Machhapuchchhre Bank 4.13 per cent, Sanima Bank 3.91 per cent, Rastriya Banijya Bank 3.83 per cent, Siddhartha Bank 3.8 per cent and Nepal SBI Bank 3.01 per cent. Similarly, Standard Chartered Bank held 1.71 percent and Everest Bank 0.74 percent.
