Kathmandu. Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. KATHMANDU — Madan Prasad Pariyar has said he was ready to address the problems of Nepali farmers.
During a meeting with beekeepers at Singha Durbar, Minister Paryal said that no decision would be taken against the consensus and advice of the farmers.
According to him, the farmers who were upset over the decision to allow multinational companies to import honey were allowed to be imported in the presence of farmers’ representatives on the basis of past agreement.
He assured that a decision would be taken only after discussing with beekeepers in the coming days. According to him, the Ministry has formed a committee to find ways to address the problems of beekeepers and farmers.
Beekeepers, however, have demanded that the import of honey should be stopped and the multinational companies should make arrangements to purchase the honey produced by Nepali farmers.
Minister Pariyar said an appropriate decision would be taken after holding tripartite discussions. He also urged them to give suggestions regarding the problems related to the marketing of honey and the ways to resolve it.
