Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has sought information about the progress made in the process of taking back the Tribhuvan University land.

Prime Minister Karki was also present on the occasion in the presence of Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Education Minister Mahabir Pun and Minister for Communications Jagadish Kharel. The meeting was held with Prof Deepak Aryal, Rector Prof Khadga KC and Registrar Prof Kedar Prasad Rijal, among others. Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal and office-bearers of the land search committee were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Karki sought information about the progress made so far in the implementation of the report and inquired about the way forward. She has asked about the number of returns made after the report was made public, how the process of withdrawal has progressed and what was the process of taking action against the guilty.

TU office-bearers said they expected the government’s support to remove the encroachers of the university land and maintain the record of the land that has been misappropriated. Home Minister Aryal said that the university itself should initiate the process of maintaining the records and if the land has been grabbed by forgery, a complaint should be filed with the CIB and other bodies as separate cases of each incident. He said the CIB was ready to take action against the CIB as it has expertise and experience in land misappropriation.

Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal said the University itself could carry out 60 per cent of the issues pointed out in the report. He was of the view that one should not depend on the government for all the works. Education Minister Pun has proposed to immediately carry out works that can be done without prolonging the issue too much and for this, a taskforce should be formed with representatives from all the stakeholders.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Karki also directed the government to stop the tendency of unrelated organizations and individuals grabbing TU land, encroaching on the basis of force and even selling it. He also directed that anyone found guilty should be immediately brought to justice.
