Kathmandu. The Gaurighat-Kumarigal-Bouddha road linking Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath Chaitya, which is enlisted in the world heritage list, is to be blacktopped with asphalt technology.

Locals have complained that dust has started blowing on the road linking the two world heritage sites after the blacktopping of the road started to be removed. Mangal Bahadur Tamang, a local, complained that they do not know what the project is trying to do by blacktopping it without even putting up a notice board.

According to him, the resources are being misused by demolishing the road which is being blacktopped and not so bad. Locals have said that such activities taking place in a non-transparent manner should be stopped.

Chairman of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6, Bhuwan Lama, however, said that the blacktopping is being carried out with the objective of making the two World Heritage Sites good roads. The Public Works Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has stated that the road construction will be completed soon.

Engineer Prafulla Gartaula, who has been deputed as site in-charge on behalf of the department, said that the 4-km road would be blacktopped by mid-December. He said that the road is being blacktopped at a cost of Rs 20 million.
