Tansen. Police have confiscated illegal goods evading customs duty from different places here. The District Police Office, Palpa, confiscated goods worth Rs 133,600 from two different places here.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hom Prakash Chaudhary, information officer at Jallah Police Office, a police team deputed from the District Police Office seized the goods from different wards of Rambha Rural Municipality and Li Rural Municipality of Baganas district.

According to him, 343 pieces of ladies’ shawls worth Rs 51,450, 41 pieces of ladies’ kurta suruwal worth Rs 24,600, child clothes set worth Rs 18,800 and packets of lightning and tobacco worth Rs 38,750 were confiscated. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chaudhary said that they were taken under control and sent to Bhairahawa Customs Office for necessary action.

Illegal smuggling of goods is on the rise in Palpa. This has a direct impact on the government’s revenue. The state is facing huge revenue loss every day due to the import of goods illegally by evading customs duty.

However, this trend is increasing day by day due to the silence of the concerned bodies. In the past, such activities took place only around the border, but now it has expanded to all areas of Palpa, Gulmi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi.
