Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is to review the issue of collecting dues from assembly industries.
NEA had sent a letter to 2 assembly industries in the third week of October, asking them to clear the remaining dues. The NEA’s Parasi Distribution Center had issued a letter asking for payment.
Along with the letter of the Authority, there was also widespread criticism of the center. Manoj Silwal, managing director of NEA, said that they are preparing to review the issue immediately.
“If they (assembly industrialists) are not satisfied with this issue, they can come to the NRA for review,” he said, “We are also discussing this issue.” It will be reviewed in a few days. ’
It is said that there is some ambiguity in the NRA’s bylaws on this issue. The assembly industry is registered with the Department of Industry. It is said that there is confusion due to the registration of the department as an industry, and the NRA’s bylaws have not clearly defined the issue of assembly industry. Another official of the authority said that this issue will be finalized this week.
In the letter sent by the NEA, it was mentioned that the company could not be given the same tariff concession as the industry to the parts assembled. NEA had sent letters to Laxmi Motor Corporation and MAW Auto Pvt Ltd in the first phase like dedicated trunk lines.
Laxmi Motor Corporation is the first Hyundai vehicle assembler in Nepal. Similarly, MAW Auto Pvt. Ltd. is assembling Yamaha motorcycles in Nepal.
According to sources, the distribution center had sent a letter to Laxmi asking her to pay around 9.25 lakhs and MAW about 13 lakhs since the establishment of the company.
After the letter of the center, the NEA has been criticized from all sides for not recognizing the assembly industry as an industry. Meanwhile, it has been decided to review the matter.
