Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) President Sunaina Ghimire Pandey has been appointed as the acting president of the party.

Pandey, who went on a two-month foreign visit some two weeks ago, has given the responsibility of acting in violation of the provision in Clause 26 (6) of the statute.

26 of the CAN Statute provides for the functions, duties and powers of the Chairperson.

According to Article 26 (6) of the statute, “In case the chairperson is outside Nepal or is unable to perform his/her duties due to any reason or if his/her post becomes vacant, the first senior vice-president shall be assigned the responsibility of acting chairperson.”

However, Chairman Pandey has given the responsibility of acting to the fifth vice-president, violating the statute. Vice-president Shrestha’s name is at the fifth position in the list of working committee of CAN. This issue is currently very much discussed within CAN.

When we tried to get information on this matter, acting president Shrestha said that only the general secretary would speak on institutional issues.

However, General Secretary Chandra Bilas Bhurtel said that the issue is not very big. He reminded that if anyone is not satisfied with the decision taken by the chairperson, they can lodge a complaint at CAN or go to the District Administration Office.

According to Bhurtel, senior vice-president Chiranjibi Adhikari might not have been present in the meeting on the day Shrestha was given the charge sheet.

Former president of CAN Binod Dhakal said that all should abide by the statute as the organization is governed by the statute. “It does not mean that the statute is abide by it or not, it is for everyone,” Dhakal said, “The organization is run as per the statute.” No one can move forward by violating it. ’

On the other hand, senior vice-president of CAN Adhikari said that in the current situation, everyone should follow the statute. He said that even if he had violated it, it was wrong. He said that former presidents should play a parental role in such matters.
