According to the annual progress report of the Inland Revenue Department, Rs 94.95 billion is yet to be recovered from the taxpayers who have outstanding dues and Rs 180.10 billion from 2,095 taxpayers who are under administrative review.
Looking at the status of tax arrears yet to be collected, Rs 219.11 billion is yet to be collected from 193,620 taxpayers. As many as Rs 48.70 billion is yet to be collected from 137,253 taxpayers, Rs 4.09 billion from 364 taxpayers and Rs 3.15 billion from 1,770 taxpayers.
Similarly, the progress of the annual target set by the Inland Revenue Department for the recovery of tax arrears in the last fiscal year has also been less. “The government has achieved 38.29 per cent progress against the target of Rs 22.76 billion in income tax for the fiscal year 2081/82 BS,” the annual report stated.
Likewise, 63.28 per cent or Rs 10.33 billion has been recovered against the target of collecting arrears of Rs 16.33 billion.
In the last fiscal year, the government has achieved 78.1 per cent progress against the target of Rs 27.38 billion towards income tax. Similarly, the VAT has increased by 122.63 per cent against the target of Rs 18.17 billion.
