Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal and the United States Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) have announced that the United States will add a grant of approximately $50 million (approximately Rs 7 billion) to the MCC-Nepal Agreement.
With this, the total available amount under the agreement will be $ 747 million (approximately Rs 106 billion), which includes $ 55 million from the US and $ 197 million from the Government of Nepal.
This additional source will help fulfill the agreement’s key objectives, such as completing priority electricity transmission infrastructure, strengthening Nepal’s power system, and enabling regional energy trade promotion. By improving energy grid reliability and market access, the agreement is expected to support international “connectivity” and promote U.S. excellence and best practices in energy infrastructure. The agreement also expands opportunities for U.S. technology and companies to enter the Nepali market.
This economic assistance reflects the enduring partnership between the United States and Nepal. For decades, our countries have worked together to advance economic growth, energy security, and mutual prosperity. The MCC Nepal compact will continue that history through a focus on high-impact infrastructure, non-loan, and grant-based assistance.
