Apples, bananas, oranges, mangoes worth Rs 400 million imported from a single border point in four months

Jhapa. Fruits worth Rs 404.44 million were imported from Kakarvitta in the past four months.

Apple, banana, orange, mango and other fruits were imported in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2082/83. Information Officer at the Mechi Customs Office, Ishwor Kumar Humagain, said fruits worth Rs 213.5 million were imported through the border point in the same period of the previous fiscal 2081/82.

Compared to the last fiscal year, fruits worth Rs 19.89 crore have been imported. Nepal imports fruits from India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, South Africa, China, the Philippines, the United States of America and Korea. According to the comparative details of the top 10 goods imported to Nepal via Kakarvitta, fruits are in the fifth position.

Information Officer Humagain said that the revenue could not be collected as compared to the target in the current fiscal year 2082/83. According to him, the customs office had set the revenue collection target at Rs 1.63 billion for the month of November. However, Rs 1.30 billion was collected during the period, he said.
