Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development Kulman Ghising inspected the under-construction federal parliament building on the premises of Singha Durbar on Wednesday evening.

During the inspection, Minister Ghising took stock of the activities being carried out at night there. Minister Ghising directed officials of the Ministry of Urban Development and contractors to work in three shifts as there is no venue for the first meeting of the new House of Representatives to be held after the election on March 4.

However, during his surprise visit on Wednesday, Minister Ghising said that he was supposed to work in three shifts but he was not seen in the field. He warned of action against contractors if they failed to complete the construction works in three shifts. Similarly, Ghising said that action will be taken against the project managers and consultants who regularly supervise the project.

Stating that the construction of the parliament building should be completed before mid-April, Minister Ghising warned of action against those found negligent if the construction was not completed on time.

The contract was signed in September 2076 with the aim of completing the construction of the parliament building within three years. The contract agreement, which has been extended for the fifth time, is expiring on January 16. The progress of construction of civil and other structures of the project is 87 percent. Another contract was signed in 2080 BS for the construction of interior, security system and other works.

The construction progress of this package is 30 percent. Earlier, after carrying out on-site inspection on October 22, he urged the bodies concerned to carry out works by making a daily work schedule to ensure that the construction of buildings would be completed by December 1.

He said that it would be difficult to complete the construction work on the stipulated time if much effort was not made, directing the concerned authorities to mobilize necessary resources accordingly by reviewing the progress of the construction work every evening.
