Kathmandu. The Medical Education Commission (MEC) has determined the number of seats for the postgraduate level (PG) courses, MD, MS and Nursing. Two seats have been allocated for the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Far-Western University and 4 seats in the Ayurveda Campus of the University.
“How can the science faculty of the university be run by teaching two students? It’s a farce,” said an official of the University of the Far West. According to him, even if only 2 students are educated, the cost of teaching in full capacity in manpower and infrastructure will be the same as teaching at full capacity.
The commission has allocated 2,030 seats for the upcoming academic session, while 1,031 seats have been allocated for government medical colleges and 999 seats for private medical colleges. A total of 18 government and 27 private medical colleges across the country are offering PG level courses. According to the commission, some seats have been increased in the government and some seats in the private sector have been decreased compared to last year.
The National Academy of Medical Sciences (Bir Hospital) has got the highest quota of 245 seats in the government category. Similarly, BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan has been allocated 204 seats and Maharajgunj Campus (Teaching Hospital) has 118 seats.
