Minister Kulman Ghising inspects under-construction East-West Asian Highway

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kul Man Ghising has inspected the under-construction East-West Asian Highway.
With the investment of the Government of Nepal and concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank, the 95-km road from Kakarvitta of Jhapa to Labipur of Sunsari is being upgraded as per the standards of the Asian Highway.TAG_OPEN_div_22 The overall construction progress of the project is 25 percent.
On the occasion, Minister Ghising held discussion with Director General of Department of Roads, project chief, consultants and contractors about the progress of road construction from Itahari to Birtamod.TAG_OPEN_div_20 Minister Ghising said that the road upgrading work has already begun but it has not been done as per the pace.
Stating that it was the appropriate time to speed up the work with the onset of winter, Minister Ghising urged the government to increase the pace of work by adding more human resources.TAG_OPEN_div_18 According to him, although some problems have been seen in shifting the electric poles on both sides of the road, the problem will be resolved by coordinating with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The road is being constructed by dividing it into two sections. The construction progress of the 45-km section from Kakarbhitta to Sitapuri of Jhapa is 29 per cent. The contract for the construction of this section was signed in Kartik 2080 BS with an aim to complete it within three years. The 50-kilometer road from Sitapuri to Labipur of Sunsari has only 13 percent progress.
The project will construct 134 culverts, wildlife-friendly underpasses, 7 vehicle underpasses, 5 overhead bridges and other road infrastructures.TAG_OPEN_div_14
