Department of Commerce, UFO take action against 9 firms

Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection on Monday took action against nine ÷different industries and farms based in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.

The Department has intensified the inspection in the recent days with the coordination and participation of local administration and bodies concerned, after being criticized for monitoring the market only during the festival time.

According to the department, a UFO Patan based in Kumripati, Lalitpur Metropolitan City-15 has been fined Rs 20,000. Likewise, a fine of Rs 20,000 has been imposed on Regmi Bag Industry based in Chamati, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15.

The Department stated that action was taken against these firms as per Section 15 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075. There is a provision in this section that the invoice should be kept.

As per the provision, the importer, transporter, hoarder and seller are required to keep the invoice or the producer of the goods or services purchased for the purpose of sale. According to the department, action has been taken against Yogendra Saree Bhandar for violating the provision.

Clause 39 (1) of the same Act states that a producer, transporter, hoarder, importer, seller or service provider of goods can be fined from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 if they are found committing any offence in course of market monitoring, inspection, inquiry or search. Action has been taken against the firm as per the same provision.

Mansarovar Enterprises and Ravi Shankar Store have been asked to present themselves at the department within three days with business related documents. The department has issued general directives to five other farms.
