Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has moved the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the decision of the Special Court (SC) on the purchase of wide-body aircraft. The Commission has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court today.

The court on December 16, 2081 had convicted Sugat Ratna Kansakar, Shankar Prasad Adhikari, Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, Shishir Kumar Dhungana and representatives of supplier companies citing that the procurement of aircraft was related to national need.

The Special Court had acquitted the then Tourism Minister Shahi, most of the office-bearers of the Board of Directors and 14 employees of the NAC. The CIAA had filed a case against 32 people including Shahi for embezzling around Rs 1.47 billion.

The CIAA has found that it had paid Rs 745.8 million in collusion with the supplier company while purchasing the aircraft. The aircraft was purchased from 242 to 230 tons. According to the commission, an additional payment of about Rs 72 crore has been made despite the reduction in tonnage. The commission has concluded that the corporation suffered a loss of Rs 1.47 billion by colluding with the company and reducing the tonnage.
