Investment in solar energy increases, 97 projects with 2,100 MW get survey permission

Kathmandu. Lately, the number of people wanting to invest in solar energy under the concept of energy mix has been increasing.

The number of investors investing in solar energy has increased as hydropower projects produce more electricity in rainy season and less in winter time. A total of 97 projects with a capacity of 2,104 MW have received survey permission from the Department of Electricity Development so far.

The number of investors in this sector has increased as the government has forwarded the concept of energy mix and policy decision to provide appropriate price to the electricity generated from solar energy. So far in the current fiscal year, six solar power projects have acquired survey license.

According to the Department, NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited will construct 100-megawatt Rolpa Solar Power Project. Likewise, the same company has taken survey license for the construction of 150 MW Arghakhanchi Solar Power Project.

CG Erngo Pvt Ltd has acquired survey license for the construction of 25-megawatt Palpa Dambak Solar Power Project. Similarly, 10 MW Birat Barju Solar Power Project, Dangihat Solar Power Project and Badganga Solar Power Project have also obtained survey permits. The Department has so far granted license to 12 solar power projects for power generation. The combined capacity of these projects is 84 MW.

Likewise, five different projects have applied for permission for the survey. The capacity of these projects is equivalent to 10 MW. According to the department, three projects with the capacity of 15 MW have applied for permission to generate electricity.
