Kathmandu. Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal has said that the ‘database’ system introduced in the customs office would help reduce corruption and promote good governance. Inaugurating the customs valuation database system of the customs office in Nepalgunj today, Minister Pun said that such unnecessary transactions were not possible for the transaction.
“We have forwarded works as per the government’s responsibility. We are also working with priority for the reform of the revenue system. The Ministry has been carrying out reforms in the Inland Revenue Administration and Customs Office by addressing the problems that have been pending for a long time. ”
Stating that the revenue base would also be strengthened as adequate facilities have been provided to the taxpayers at all the local levels, he said the issues of undue interest would not get priority.
“The ministry has done a lot of work that will benefit us in the long run. Taxpayer-targeted works are also being carried out at the local level. This will contribute to revenue collection and correction of wrong tendencies,” Minister Khanal said, adding, “In some cases, there may be no work due to suspicion and in some cases, the work may not be carried out due to bad conduct. ”
On the occasion, Revenue Secretary Bhupal Baral said the data system has been implemented as per the demand of business community for the improvement in customs system. “Risk is in every system and there is risk in it, but this system is scientific and transparent. This will definitely bring benefits,” he said, adding that it is the responsibility of both the private sector and the government to maintain good governance. It is everyone’s responsibility to promote legitimate trade. Let us adopt a policy of use of technology and collaboration in this. ”
Director General of the Department of Customs, Shyam Prasad Bhandari, said the system was implemented in Nepal following the international practice. “This system will help increase revenue by controlling customs duty evasion, prevent revenue leakage by easily detecting valuation risk,” he said, adding that the system is necessary to control money laundering by detecting more or less price, to determine fair, transparency and uniformity in customs valuation. ”
The system would also store detailed information on the transaction price of goods, transportation, insurance and other cost details.
