Biratnagar. The customs agents have been agitating against the provisions of the Act 2082 made to amend and integrate the laws related to customs issued by the government on December 3. Biratnagar: The Biratnagar Customs Office has been closed since today due to the agitation by the agents.
The private sector of Biratnagar has also supported the protest. Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) Koshi Province Committee Chair and Constituent Assembly member Pawan Sarda said the government supported the government’s protest against the new customs act that would take action against industrialists and customs agents.
Chairman of Biratnagar Customs Agents’ Association Devkinandan Sharma said that the office has been closed from today at the call of the Federation of Customs Agents Nepal. Due to the agitation, customs import and export inspection passes have been stopped. Biratnagar Customs Office has set a target of collecting revenue of over Rs 140 million per day. The agitation has affected the achievement of this goal.
